第14章 论道
本章阐述的是道的一些规律。这些规律天地产生时就已经存在了，只不过没有名称来称呼这些规律。所以才给予了这些规律名称。一种规律，一种事物在予以名称时，一定得恰当得体，不能名实不符，不能命名不当。
正文：视之不见，名曰“夷”；听之不闻，名曰“希”；搏之不得，名曰“微”。此三者不可致诘，故混而为一。其上不皦，其下不昧，绳绳兮不可名，复归于无物。是谓无状之状，无物之象，是谓“恍惚”。迎之不见其首，随之不见其后。
执古之道以御今之有。能知古始，是谓“道纪”。
英译文： Look, it can’t be seen, it is thus named “invisible”. Listen, it can’t be heard, it is thus called ”inaudible”. Reach out, it can’t be grasped, it is “formless”. You can’t get to the roots of all three, thus they are mixed up as one. Turning up, it isn’t illuminous and turning down it isn’t dimmable; by definition, they aren’t nameable. They return to the form of non-existence. Thus, they are forms without form, and image beyond objects, and it is called “trance”. Facing it, its front can’t be seen, and following it, its back can’t be found. With Tao of antiquity, the world of today is so ruled. Understanding antiquity and its roots, it is thus called “wisdom”.
解析：道的规律无穷无尽，什么样的规律都有。有些规律真是十分玄妙，就如有些道就在有形和无形之间不断转换，让人琢磨不透。有些则是清晰明了，让人直接了悟。执古之道以御今之有就是用世出世间智慧所为世间事。所以做的事才能经得住时间的检验。拥有世出世间的智慧就得修道通达世出世间法，或修道明悟世出世间法。通达了世出世间法思维就能进入时空隧道，所以才能知道过去，现在，未来。这就是道纪。
