We dug some old TV recordings from past Chinese Spring Festival Galas. They were so enjoyable! I've been always loving the pieces from the old days.
The first Chinese Spring Festival Gala live streaming was in 1983. This Gala and a few following that year had a very small stage in the center, with all the audience around. The actors and actresses sat together with the aidience, and interacted with the audience a lot. Over time, the stage becomes bigger and fancier, and so do the programs, but somehow I feel it starts losing the "warm" feelings that I found from the old Galas.
Watching the Spring Festival Gala has been a tradition in my family. On the Chinese New Year Eve, we would go to my grandparent's place, enjoyed a great homemade dinner and sat down together to watch the gala.
After I came overseas, I haven't been able to come back home around the Spring Festival time, so I started watching it with my friends. We gather together, making dumplings and watchig the Gala together. It's one of the simple happiness in life.
