1.「Fail」
常见的意思是“失败”，文中的意思是let sb down，使某人失望。
原句：It is my solace that I shall not fail you.
例句：I feel I've failed my children by not spending more time with them.
2.「wander」
常见的意思是“漫步，徘徊”，文中的意思是look around slowly at different things or at all parts of something，视线移来移去。
原句：His eyes wandered to the blue vase on the writing-table.
例句：His gaze wandered round the room.
3.「sheltered」
常见的意思是“受保护的，隐蔽的”，文中的意思是peaceful，安静的，宁静的。
原句：He shuddered, feeling as if an invisible door had been suddenly opened, a door through which a chill breeze from another world was blowing into his sheltered room.
