*establish: to discover or prove the facts of a situation

 synonym: ascertain

 - establish something: Police are still trying to establish the cause of the accident.


35. We tell the S.A. we got a witness corroborating permission and we cut Kenny's jail time by 10 years.

*corroborate:to provide evidence or information that supports a statement, theory, etc.

 synonym: confirm

 - The evidence was corroborated by two independent witnesses.

 - corroborating evidence

*cut somebody's jail time by + 时间


36. He shouldn't have to do any jail time.

*do some jail time


37. Without the burglary charge, he can't be held accountable for what happened after he left a crime scene.

*hold: [transitive](formal) to consider that something is true

 - hold that…: I still hold that the government's economic policies are mistaken.

 - hold somebody/something + adj.: Parents will be held responsible for their children's behaviour.

 - be held to be something: These vases are held to be the finest examples of Greek art.

*accountable: responsible for your decisions or actions and expected to explain them when you are asked


38. Guidance counselor says he's been suspended twice for fighting.

*[usually passive] suspend somebody (from something): to officially prevent somebody from doing their job, going to school, etc. for a time


39. Timeline is too mushy for reasonable doubt.

*timeline:a horizontal line that is used to represent time, with the past towards the left and the future towards the right

40. We should be fighting for total exoneration.

*fight for something

*exoneration: the act of officially stating that somebody is not responsible for something that they have been blamed for
