《Little Red Hen》是根据英文传统童话改编的故事，是纽约公共图书馆推荐的100本人人都应该知道的绘本之一。相同内容的绘本出了很多版本，长销不衰。故事讲述了一只红母鸡从播种、收割、磨麦粉到做面包的整个过程。她请求dog、cat、mouse等朋友帮忙，但他们的回答是：“NOT”。红母鸡最后做好了面包，他们却要分享成果。
小母鸡会同意么？也可以让孩子思考下。故事中不断重复“请求帮助”、“拒绝别人的要求”，“自己可以做”。孩子看后，家长可以一起角色扮演，学会这些表达。

"Will you help me plant the wheat?" asked Little Red Hen.
“你们愿意帮我种小麦么？”红色小母鸡问道。
"No,"said the rat, the cat and the dog.
“不愿意。”小老鼠，小猫，小狗说道。
"Then I will plant it all by myself," said Little Red Hen.
“那好吧，那我一个人种。”红色小母鸡说。
And she did.
于是她自己种了小麦。
"Will you help me cut the wheat?" asked Little Red Hen.
“你们愿意帮我收割小麦么？”红色小母鸡问道。
"No," said the rat, the cat and the dog.
“不愿意。”小老鼠，小猫，小狗回答。
"Then I will cut it all by myself," said Little Red Hen.
“那好吧，那我一个人收割小麦。”红色小母鸡说。
And she did.
是她一个人收割完小麦。
"Will you help me make the flour?" asked Little Red Hen.
“你们愿意帮我磨面粉么？”红色小母鸡问道。
"No," said the rat, the cat and the dog.
“不愿意。”小老鼠，小猫，小狗回答。
"Then I will make it all by myself," said Little Red Hen.
“那好吧，那我就一个人磨面吧。”红色小母鸡说。
And she did.
于是她一个人磨了面粉。
"Will you help me make the bread?" asked Little Red Hen.
“你们愿意帮我磨面粉么？”红色小母鸡问道。
"No," said the rat, the cat and the dog.
“不愿意。”小老鼠，小猫，小狗回答。
"Then I will make it all by myself," said Little Red Hen.
“那好吧，那我就一个人做面包吧。”红色小母鸡说。
And she did.
于是她一个人做了面包。
"Will you help me eat the bread?" asked Little Red Hen.
“你们愿意帮我吃面包么？”红色小母鸡问道。
"Yes," said the rat, the cat and the dog.
“愿意。”小老鼠，小猫，小狗回答。
"No," said Little Red Hen.
“不用了，”红色小母鸡说道。
"I will make it all by myself."
“我要一个人把面包都吃了。”
And she did!
于是她一个人把面包都吃了！
